Bridging +

Space + Lab

Theo Zenker collaborator as a guest tutor in the urban planning project at the Faculty of Architecture at TH Köln University, Germany 2024, as part of the Master’s program in “Spatial Strategies”.

This lab focuses on implementing new technologies in architectural design and visualization, utilizing both virtual reality and augmented reality tools, as well as integrating artificial intelligence throughout the entire design process.

Lead Professor: Dr. Nadine Zinser-Junghanns / m.a. Carolin Schabbing

Space + Lab

Master students developed a sophisticated design of a bridge between the localities of Deutz and Ubierring, crossing the Rhine River.

In addition to conventional analogue and digital work tools, we also integrate virtual tools such as VR glasses in this design process in order to work immersively, flexibly and interactively and to be able to assess the design 1:1

Design requirements:

Geographical: Connection of people of both sides of the river.

Social: Connection of people, city + culture. Connection + expansion of public urban space in Cologne.

Connection: Traffic, utility areas in virtual + hybrid space.

Presentation to the city of cologne

For the final submission, the students presented the work completed throughout the semester to members of the jury of the City of Cologne, as the project was part of a competition promoted by the city for the construction of the bridge. Both virtual models and physical models, as well as the design process, were showcased in this presentation.
